George Jones.
N X87908 George Clyde Jones has an honoured place in 2/33rd Battalion history, not only for gallantry in battle, but also for his great service to the Battalion Association after the war. He never forgot his mates.
He served on the Battalion Association committee and was secretary for a number of years.
Born in the Sydney suburb of Ramsgate on January 23, 1923, he enlisted on February 9, 1942, a few weeks after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour in December, 1941, and the same day the 7th Division, including the 2/33rd Battalion started their long voyage home from Port Tewfik, in Egypt, to help defend Australia against the Japanese.
He served in Papua, New Guinea and Borneo. He was a Lance Corporal by the time of his discharge on January 21, 1946.
